college kids rate Lolita # 1
i just took a couple of surveys, of sorts.
i checked my facebook list of favorites (books, movies and music) against those of my friends (it's not as tedious as it sounds).
oh, and numbers do not include my vote.
no chicklit:Lolita(7), Catcher in the Rye(3) and Crime & Punishment(3).
oh the runner up was Death of a Salesman (2)
i was dissapointed to find that Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man didn't make it onto anyone's list
films: Annie Hall (2) Gladiator (2)
surprised that none of these made it to anyone's list: The Gradutate, Forrest Gump, and Taxi Driver
music seems pretty much right on: Beatles (7) Bob Dylan (5) Pink Floyd (4) Idan Raichel (2) Fionna Apple (2)
Beethoven (2) Chopin (2) Brahms (2) Bach (2)

So what's wrong? Except for Lolita maybe...But you really liked that book, didn't you?
At least there's no Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings...
no nothing wrong academically. just a lot of vile stuff between the three:)
You clearly didn't check against my list. Joyce is right after Faulkner and right before Kafka on the list. Maybe not Portrait itself, but I only listed authors anyway.

Well, have a look at modern libraries best 100 novels of the century, the majority of the books listed are vile. And Lolita is #4, and catcher is 64. (Crime and Punishment was published prior to the start of the 20th century, and Death of a Saleman is a play, so they could not have ended up on the list...)

I think she was just comparing to other Columbia students, hence her comment: "what does this portend for the future of the Ivy Leaguer?"
oops, should have been "modern library's"
eh, don't take me so literally. i was tired. anyway i searched all my facebook friends in fact, so the ivy league thing was a little inaccurate. but mostly my facebook friends are at columbia. anyway, i know i was looking for something to say so i chose vile. personally i like all three of those books a whole lot, though in very different ways. . . .
and mordy, i clicked on the book name so oh well. but yeah i think portrait of the artist is my all-time favorite book. so sad my friends dont agree:(
lolita's great but it's not the greatest book ever written, by a long shot. even nabokov wrote some better stuff. . . .
well, well
btw, you've been tagged, so step on it already!
